How it works

How it works: from “what will it cost?” to a booked installer.

No phone tag, no inflated estimates. Four steps, a transparent price built from live UK data, and fixed quotes from OZEV-approved installers who actually turn up.

The short version

One honest price, then quotes you can actually compare

Most people start their EV charger search with a single question — “what will it actually cost?” — and end up more confused than when they began. Every installer quotes differently, headline prices assume a perfect job, and the moment you fill in one contact form you're fielding sales calls for a fortnight.

ChargeQuotereplaces that with a clear, four-step path. You get a transparent cost grounded in live UK install data, we qualify your job once so installers can quote it properly, you're matched only with vetted OZEV-approved installers covering your postcode, and you compare fixed quotes side by side. Here's each step in detail.

01

Get a real cost

Answer three quick questions in the calculator. We price your install against live data from thousands of recent UK jobs — and flag which grant you qualify for. You see a transparent range in seconds.

Most price tools quote a single optimistic 'from' figure. Ours is different: it's anchored to our live cost index, which we rebuild every month from real invoices and quotes. So when you tell us your charger speed (typically 7kW for home), your property type and your rough cable run, the range you see reflects what comparable jobs actually cost across the UK right now — including the awkward extras, like a consumer-unit upgrade, that headline prices conveniently leave out. You also find out, up front, whether the government grant could come off your price.

02

We qualify the job

Our assistant confirms your postcode, property, parking, charger and timeline. This turns a vague enquiry into a job an installer can actually quote — no back-and-forth, no surprises on the day.

An installer can't give you a firm price from 'I want a charger'. They need to know where the unit goes, how far it is from the fuse board, whether you park off-street, and what your existing electrics look like. Our assistant gathers exactly that — once — and packages it into a defined job. The payoff is twofold: you skip days of phone tag and site-survey scheduling, and because every installer is quoting the same clearly-described job, the quotes you get back are genuinely comparable instead of being guesses based on different assumptions.

03

Match with installers

Your qualified job goes only to vetted, OZEV-approved installers covering your postcode. They send fixed quotes — never a cold sales call list shared with twenty companies.

Your details are shared only with the small number of vetted installers who actually cover your postcode and can do the work — not sold on to a wide list of unrelated firms. Every installer we match you with is OZEV-approved (authorised to fit the chargepoints that qualify for the grant), insured, and review-checked, and we re-check those credentials continuously. That means no cold sales calls for weeks afterwards, and no being passed to someone two counties away who can't realistically take the job.

04

Compare & book

Compare up to three fixed quotes side by side, pick the one that suits, and book. The grant comes off the price automatically where you qualify.

You receive up to three fixed quotes and compare them side by side — price, charger, lead time and the installer's review score in one view. Because the grant is reflected up front where you qualify, the number you compare is the number you pay. Pick the installer that suits you, book directly, and you're done. There's no obligation to accept any of them: if nothing's right, you simply don't book, and you're never locked in for having been matched.

Common questions

How it works: your questions answered

How long does it take to get matched with an installer?

Getting your cost estimate takes a couple of minutes in the calculator. Once you confirm the job details, matched installers covering your postcode typically respond with fixed quotes within a day or two — far quicker than chasing companies one by one.

Is ChargeQuote free to use?

Yes. There's no charge to get a cost estimate, qualify your job or receive quotes. Installers pay us for qualified jobs, and you never pay more on your install for being matched through us.

How many quotes will I get?

Usually up to three fixed quotes from vetted installers who cover your area. Because each installer is quoting the same defined job, the numbers are directly comparable rather than a scatter of guesses.

Is the price I see binding?

The calculator gives a transparent estimate based on live UK install data so you know the right ballpark before anyone contacts you. The fixed quotes you then receive from installers are the firm prices — and because the job is pre-qualified, there are no surprise extras sprung on the day.

Do I have to accept a quote?

No. There's no obligation. You compare the quotes, and if none suits you, you simply don't book. You're never locked in by getting matched.
